Opperman to Replace Selner at National Dairy Shrine
USAgNet - 07/14/2020

The Wisconsin-based National Dairy Shrine will soon have a new executive director. Mike Opperman will take over the organization on August 1 upon the retirement of Dr. David Selner, who has led the group since 2008.

Opperman has has more than 30 years of experience in the dairy industry, including 15 years with the marketing communications agency Charleston|Orwig. He's also served as the director of dairy content for Farm Journal for four years.

"I'm humbled to be chosen as executive director and follow in a long lineage of dairy dignitaries that have held this position," Opperman said. "The National Dairy Shrine has a rich history and I look forward to preserving that tradition with a focus toward future development and improvements that fit the mission and vision of the organization."

During Dr. Selner's tenure, the NDS has seen significant growth; and he was instrumental in the renovation of the National Dairy Shrine Museum in Fort Atkinson.

"I have considered it a great honor to serve as the NDS executive director," Selner said. "I believe that NDS mission goals have evolved, improved, and grown over the last several years but it is now time to move forward with a younger director with new enthusiasm and ideas."

The National Dairy Shrine has served the dairy industry for the past 71 years by honoring past and present leaders and inspiring future leaders with scholarships and educational resources.
