USDA Publishes Reports on EEE & WNV
USAgNet - 02/24/2017

The USDA's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service completed the 2016 annual reports for equine cases of West Nile virus and eastern equine encephalitis. APHIS collaborates with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and State and veterinary public health officials to facilitate communication about EEE and WNV equine diseases and to confirm cases in each State.

CDC collects EEE and WNV case information using its ArboNET reporting system--an electronic surveillance and reporting system used to track and report arboviral (i.e., arthropod-borne virus) activity in humans and animals.

In 2016, there were 116 reported EEE cases and 377 reported WNV cases in equines.

Both reports are posted on the APHIS equine disease website at www.aphis.usda.gov.
