New York Barley and Oats Harvests Progressing Well

According to the National Agricultural Statistics Service in New York, there were 4.5 days suitable for fieldwork for the week ending Sunday.

Topsoil moisture supplies were 0 percent very short, 2 percent short, 64 percent adequate, and 34 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies were 0 percent very short, 3 percent short, 71 percent adequate, and 26 percent surplus.

Apple harvest progressed 10 points this week to 28 percent complete, the same as the five-year average pace.

Barley harvested for grain was up only 1 percent to 83 percent, about the same as average, while oats harvested for grain reached 93 percent, well ahead of the five-year aerage of 87 percent and last year's 82 perent.

Cabbage harvested was 53 percent, behind last year's 62 percent and the five-year average of 87 percent complete. Onions harvested was 40 percent, behind last year's 48 percent and the five-year average of 50 percent. Fifty-seven percent of potatoes were harvested and 46 perent of snap beans were harvested. Sweet corn harvest hit 79 percent.

Fall tillage was 38 percent complete, ahead of last year's 34 percent and the five-year average of 31 percent.
