University to Honor Indigenous Peoples' Day
New York Ag Connection - 10/11/2019

On Oct. 14, Syracuse University will honor Indigenous Peoples' Day. The Universitywide celebration was officially adopted in 2016 and continues to provide the campus community with opportunities to honor, celebrate and learn about the many contributions of indigenous peoples across the world.

This year's celebration is themed "150 Years of Impact," and includes an educational and celebratory event on the Shaw Quadrangle from noon to 4 p.m. that aims to educate the campus community about the Haudenosaunee, indigenous values, historical trauma, environmental and climate issues, treaty belts, Syracuse University and Onondaga Nation connections, Indigenous mascot issues and indigenous peoples' contributions and culture.

The Office of Multicultural Affairs, Native Student Program and Indigenous Students at Syracuse have organized this year's activities.

For more information, contact Regina Jones, assistant director of the Native Student Program, at rajones@syr.edu or 315-443-0258.
