New York Egg Production Up Slightly from 2020

New York egg production totaled 148.0 million during January 2021, up 0.3 percent from last year.

The total number of layers during January 2021 averaged 5.79 million, up 1.2 percent from last year.

January egg production per 100 layers was 2,557 eggs, down 0.9 percent from January 2020.

United States egg production totaled 9.53 billion during January 2021, down 2% from last year. Production included 8.26 billion table eggs, and 1.27 billion hatching eggs, of which 1.18 billion were broiler-type and 88.5 million were egg-type. The total number of layers during January 2021 averaged 393 million, down 2% from last year. January egg production per 100 layers was 2,424 eggs, up slightly from January 2020.

All layers in the United States on February 1, 2021 totaled 394 million, down 1% from last year. The 394 million layers consisted of 327 million layers producing table or market type eggs, 63.3 million layers producing broiler-type hatching eggs, and 3.32 million layers producing egg-type hatching eggs. Rate of lay per day on February 1, 2021, averaged 78.1 eggs per 100 layers, up slightly from February 1, 2020.

Egg-type chicks hatched during January 2021 totaled 50.9 million, down 4% from January 2020. Eggs in incubators totaled 53.1 million on February 1, 2021, up 6% from a year ago. Domestic placements of egg-type pullet chicks for future hatchery supply flocks by leading breeders totaled 279 thousand during January 2021, up 5% from January 2020.

Broiler-type chicks hatched during January 2021 totaled 850 million, down 1% from January 2020. Eggs in incubators totaled 706 million on February 1, 2021, down 2% from a year ago.
