NYS Small Grain Planting Wrapping Up
New York Ag Connection - 05/22/2018

New York averaged 4.5 days suitable for field work.

Temperatures ranged from 4 degrees below to 9 degrees above normal. Weekly precipitation ranged from 0.00 to 2.52 inches, a slight increase overall compared to the prior week.

Progress continued with many areas wrapping up planting of small grains and beginning the first cutting of hay. Some areas had occasional rains that slowed some activity but many planted crops were reported as beginning to emerge such as peas. One area did report a storm, which concerned some operators with potential erosion of plantings.

Shoot growth continued last week on Long Island vineyards though Chardonnay was reported as a week behind regular growth.
