The Empire State Potato Growers, Inc. has announced Megan Ruth Lamb of Hamilton as the 2018 Empire State Potato Growers Scholar. Lamb will receive a $500 scholarship per academic year for up to four consecutive years of agricultural education at a college in New York State. She will be recognized at the Ag Leadership Luncheon at Empire Farm Days on Aug. 8 at Rodman Lott & Son Farms in Seneca Falls.

With a career goal of becoming a high school agriculture teacher and FFA advisor, Ms. Lamb plans to begin her college education at Morrisville State College or Cornell University this fall.

Currently serving as the New York State FFA Vice-President, Lamb is a member of the Stockbridge Valley Central School FFA Chapter, Lamb was one of four finalists for the 2017 National FFA Proficiency Award for Agriscience Research in Plant Systems.

LAmb is the daughter of Neil and Beth Lamb, who operate Country Lamb Farm in Hamilton. She has a particular interest in horticultural science, and has helped her family raise gladiola flowers on a large-scale commercial basis for sale to florists and at farmers markets. The extended family operates Spencer's Glads in western New York.

"With this award to Megan Ruth Lamb, the Empire State Potato Growers, Inc. continues its tradition of recognizing students who represent a strong future for agriculture. Megan is well-deserving of this honor and support to help advance her education in agricultural science," said Empire State Potato Growers Scholarship Committee Chairman Gary Mahany.

The annual Empire Farm Days Ag Leadership Luncheon program, sponsored by Farm Credit East, includes remarks from representatives with Farm Credit East, American Agriculturist magazine, and Empire Farm Days, and presentations of the New York State Agricultural Environmental Management Award, and Empire State Potato Growers Association Scholarship.

Empire Farm Days is the largest outdoor agricultural trade show in the Northeastern U.S. The Aug. 7-9 event will cover 300-plus acres with exhibits, field demonstrations, equipment, live animals, educational seminars, test driving, and rural life and safety booths.
