State Fair Food: Sweet, Hot French Fry Topping
New York Ag Connection - 07/12/2019

Whether you like your french fries sweet or with heat, there will be two new options for adventurous eaters at the 2019 Great New York State Fair. Big Kahuna's stand at the Fair, long known for its wild food ideas, will debut two new french fry dishes this year: Caramel Crack Fries and Flamin' Hot Cheetos Fries.

Hot, crispy Caramel Crack Fries are sprinkled with cinnamon sugar, drizzled with caramel, topped with whipped cream and colorful fruity cereal bits. Flamin' Hot Cheetos Fries are coated in cheese before being dusted with scorching Flamin' Hot Cheetos and garnished with slices of Jalapeno peppers.

"We love the creativity of our dozens of food vendors, who make sure people can get what they look forward to and can also try something new, fun and a little bit crazy. We'll share other fun food tips as we get closer to the Fair," said Troy Waffner, Fair Director.

Brick said Big Kahuna's will use all New York State products this year for its fresh ground hamburgers. All Fair vendors can be located using the Fair's Food and Merchandise Finder, which will be available on the Fair's website when it is updated for the 2019 Fair in early August. Participating vendors also list their menus to help fairgoers find specific foods.

Food is a major point of emphasis for the Fair. In annual surveys, fairgoers place food from the Fair's approximately 200 vendors at the top of their reasons for coming to the Fairgrounds. The Fair continues to diversify its food and beverage offerings and urge vendors to increase the use of New York State products. In recent years, additions have included Kosher, Polish, vegan food and more. Fairgoers can find dozens of New York State beers, wines, spirits and ciders as the Fair. Taste NY, the state's effort to promote great products grown or made in the state, has a significant presence at the Fair, working with vendors to offer free product samples every day and operating a store in the Horticulture Building where New York products can be bought.

Founded in 1841, the Great New York State Fair is America's third largest state fair. The Fair showcases the best of New York agriculture, provides top-quality entertainment and is a key piece of Governor Cuomo's CNY Rising strategy of growing the Central New York economy through tourism. Fair attendance is up more than 40% since the beginning of more than $120 million in investments, with 1.27 million people attending the Fair in 2018. The 2019 Fair runs from Aug. 21 to Sept. 2.
