Around the World Documentary Series Wraps Up with UN Screening
New York Ag Connection - 07/15/2019

At United Nations headquarters in New York, the Around the World documentary team screened the latest installment of its video series on co-ops across five continents.

With support from the International Co-operative Alliance-EU Partnership on Cooperative Development (#coops4dev), researcher Sara Vicari and filmmaker Andrea Mancori in January launched a trip around the world to visit and document some of the most innovative and inspiring examples of cooperation from different economic sectors across five continents.

Already, the team has released episodes about cooperative impact in Italy, Morocco, Rwanda, Malaysia and Nepal. There, the team highlights the quality jobs and new economic opportunities the Bhabishya Nirman Sana Kishan Cooperative is creating.

This week's screening of the Nepal episode in New York coincided with an event organized by the Committee for the Promotion and Advancement of Cooperatives (COPAC) to celebrate International Day of Cooperatives. Joining the documentary team for an interactive panel were co-op representatives, UN ambassadors and government representatives.

Vicari and Mancori also wrapped up filming in the U.S. this week by interviewing National Cooperative Business Association CLUSA president and CEO Doug O'Brien on the growth and impact of worker and platform co-ops in the U.S., movements that will feature prominently in the U.S. episodes of the Around the World documentary series. The team was in Australia before the U.S. and will travel to South America next.

Vicari and Mancori are planning a longer screening at the International Cooperative Alliance's International Conference on Cooperatives for Development in Kigali, Rwanda in October.
