VWR Foundation Approves Over $140,000 in Grants
New York Ag Connection - 08/18/2017

The VWR Foundation, Radnor, Pa., a charitable organization dedicated to giving back to the science community, distributed 20 grants totaling over $140,000 during its board meeting. Board members reviewed a record number of grant applications including many organizations new to the Foundation.

Among the grant recipients was The Helping Hand Project at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNC Charlotte), whose mission is to use forward thinking and innovative technologies to provide useful prosthetic devices to those in need at no cost to the patient or their family. The VWR Foundation's grant will provide funds for equipment and supplies needed to print and assemble prosthetic devices.

Dr. Richard Chi, Assistant Professor at UNC Charlotte, commented, "With the support from the VWR Foundation, the Helping Hand Project at UNC Charlotte will be able to provide low-cost prosthetic devices to thousands of children in need while also promoting STEM education across the U.S. These grant dollars will supply our student-run organization with dedicated 3D printers and materials to print prosthetic devices, ultimately reducing our delivery time to just days. We thank the VWR Foundation for its commitment to our program."

The VWR Foundation awards this month also included Trilok Fusion Arts in Brooklyn.

Established in 2009 by a group of associates from VWR, the VWR Charitable Foundation is committed to giving back to the science community. The VWR Foundation has donated more than $2.7 million since its inception, supporting organizations and programs that align with its three strategic priorities: research for new innovation and scientific applications; improving health and well-being; and building greater awareness and improvement in science education.
