APHIS: No Significant Impact in Experimental Rabies Vaccine
New York Ag Connection - 09/12/2017

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), Wildlife Services (WS) program has issued a Decision and Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for a 2015 Supplement to the Environmental Assessment (EA): Field Trial of an Experimental Rabies Vaccine, Human Adenovirus Type 5 Vector in New Hampshire, New York, Ohio, Vermont, and West Virginia that evaluated potential impacts to the quality of the human environment from the continued implementation of a field trial to determine the safety and immunogenicity of the human adenovirus type 5 -- rabies glycoprotein rabies vaccine. Additionally, the 2017 Supplement to the EA examined the potential environmental impacts from expanding the geographic zone of the field trial in Ohio, West Virginia, and New York.

Based on the analyses contained in the EA, 2012 Supplement to the EA, 2015 Supplement to the EA, the 2017 Supplement to the EA, and the associated Decision/FONSI, it was concluded that implementation of the proposed action alternative would not have a significant impact on the quality of the human environment. A Decision and FONSI was issued on Aug. 17 selecting to implement the proposed action alternative. We anticipate that a Notice of Availability will be published in the Federal Register on or around Sept. 12.

At that time interested parties may obtain a copy of the Decision/FONSI via the Federal eRulemaking Portal at Additionally, you can view the final 2017 Supplement to the EA and the Decision/FONSI on the APHIS webpage.
