New York Farmers Continue Corn, Soybean Harvests

According to the National Agricultural Statistics Service in New York, there were 3.5 days suitable for fieldwork for the week ending Sunday.

Topsoil moisture supplies were 2 percent very short, 9 percent short, 78 percent adequate, and 11 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies were 7 percent very short, 8 percent short, 70 percent adequate, and 15 percent surplus.

Corn harvested for grain was 60 percent, ahead of 2019's 54 percent but behind the 5-year average of 66 percent. The soybean harvest was 85 percent complete, ahead of last year's 80 percent and about equal with the 5-year average of 86 percent.

Fourth-cutting of alfalfa hay was 84 percent complete, while fourth-cutting of other hay was 83 percent complete.

Fall tillage was 77 percent complete, behind last year and the 5-year averages of 86 percent.

Winter wheat planted was nearly complete at 96 percent, and emerged was reported at 92 percent.
