Godmother of Soul to Perform on Women's Day at New York State Fair
New York Ag Connection - 08/15/2022

The "Godmother of Soul," one of the most influential voices in the Rhythm and Blues, Pop and Soul musical genres, is coming back to the Great New York State Fair. Patti LaBelle will perform on Women's Day, Aug. 31 at 6 p.m. at Chevy Court.

Patti LaBelle's storied career has spanned six decades. A triple threat, she is a singer, actress, and a writer.

Patti first rose to fame in the 1960s as lead singer of the vocal group, Patti LaBelle and the Bluebelles (later, their name changed to Labelle), best known for the number-one sensation, "Lady Marmalade." From there, Patti's solo music career churned out hits including, "You Are My Friend," "New Attitude," "Somebody Loves You Baby (You Know Who It Is)" and more, well into the 2000s.

In the 1990s, Patti starred in her own television sitcom, Out All Night. Fairgoers might also recognize her from popular films and television programs, including A Soldier's Story, American Horror Story, and more recently, Dancing with the Stars and The Masked Singer.

An accomplished author, Patti has written six books, including the New York Times bestselling cookbook, LaBelle Cuisine, which just celebrated its commemorative 20th Anniversary Edition release. In 2007, she introduced Patti's Good Life, a food and lifestyle brand that offers a variety of frozen comfort foods, including her world-famous Sweet Potato Pie.

Patti LaBelle most recently performed on Chevy Court in 2015.

"We are incredibly honored to have Patti LaBelle return to join our line-up of musical performers," said interim Fair Director Sean Hennessey. "A singer, an actress, writer, and entrepreneur -- is there anything this woman can't do? What an inspiring example she sets for women today! To be able to host her legend at the New York State Fair is a cherry on top of a stellar ice cream sundae of music. And, guess what? We have more sprinkles for you!"

All concerts in the Chevrolet Music Series are free with Fair admission. Tickets, just $3, are on sale now at the State Fair's website. All concerts at the Fair are sponsored by Chevrolet. Visit the State Fair's website for full lists of concerts scheduled to take place at the Chevy Court and Chevy Park Experience stages.
