Two exceptional high school seniors in New York have been honored as the recipients of the 2023 New York Farm Bureau Agricultural Youth Scholarship.

The scholarship program, organized by the New York Farm Bureau's Promotion and Education Committee, selected winners from 11 districts across the state based on their essay submissions and demonstrated engagement in both agriculture and their local communities.

Jacob Ziehm, a member of the Washington County Farm Bureau, emerged as the first-place state winner. Hailing from Schaghticoke and attending Greenwich Central School District, Ziehm was awarded a $3,000 scholarship for his outstanding achievements.

Holly Niefergold, from Lawtons, secured the second-place state position. Her family's farm, a member of the Cattaraugus County Farm Bureau, proudly supported her journey. Niefergold, a senior at North Collins Jr./Sr. High School, received a $2,000 scholarship in recognition of her dedication.

District winners from each region were also acknowledged with cash awards and gifts from the New York Farm Bureau Promotion and Education Program. Notable district winners include Alyssa Healy, Tyler Sheils, Laura Mills, Sophia Wilbur, Abbie Ainslie, Matthew Wilson, Simone Schuman, Lauryn Menz, and Mary Padavan.

These accomplished individuals exemplify the future of agriculture in New York, showcasing their commitment to the industry and their communities. Congratulations to all the deserving scholarship recipients!
