Advocates Push Congress for Hunger Action in New York
New York Ag Connection - 09/15/2023

Advocates are pushing Congress to take action to help families who may not be able to put food on the table. They also want to see the Farm Bill reauthorized and the Emergency Food Assistance Program strengthened.

Food Bank for New York City and the Brooklyn Rescue Mission discussed these issues on NY1's "Inside City Hall" with Errol Louis.

The Farm Bill is a comprehensive piece of legislation that funds agriculture programs, including nutrition assistance programs like SNAP. The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) provides food to low-income Americans through food banks and other community organizations.

Advocates say that reauthorizing the Farm Bill and strengthening TEFAP are essential to addressing hunger in the United States. They also urge Congress to take other steps to help families who are struggling to afford food, such as expanding SNAP eligibility and increasing the minimum wage.
