By Blake Jackson

An educational opportunity for those interested in swine farming is coming to Ballston Spa. The "Intro to Swine Production" workshop will be held on May 8, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) Saratoga County office, located at 50 W High St #1, Ballston Spa, NY.

This workshop is designed to introduce attendees to the fundamentals of swine production, making it ideal for beginners or those looking to expand their knowledge.

Key topics include swine production systems, common breeds, animal health, proper nutrition, and husbandry practices. Participants will gain valuable insight into how to manage and care for pigs effectively and efficiently.

The event is hosted by the Central New York Dairy and Field Crops team, with Ashley McFarland serving as the main contact. McFarland can be reached at 315-604-2156 for any questions or further information.

The cost to attend is $10 per person, with an additional $10 fee for each accompanying guest. Space is limited, so early registration is encouraged. This workshop offers a great chance to learn the basics of swine farming from experienced educators in a practical, hands-on setting.
