Cornell Cooperative Extension is offering a free online informational session for individuals interested in becoming certified pesticide applicators in New York. The webinar will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 17, from 1 to 2 p.m. via Zoom. Participants can register in advance through the provided Zoom link.
The program will feature Kenneth Klubek, a representative from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), who will guide attendees through the essential steps of pesticide applicator certification.
Topics will include determining who needs certification, the different certification categories, how the examination process works, and what is required for recertification. The session will also include time for participants to ask questions and clarify requirements.
For those planning to take the pesticide certification exam in 2025, a more detailed two-day exam preparation course will follow this introductory webinar. The prep course is scheduled for January 13-14 and will also be held online.
Organizers note that neither the webinar nor the two-day prep course fulfills the state-required 30-hour eligibility course, which applicants must complete before taking the exam. Information about upcoming eligibility courses can be found on the NYSPAD website.
