New York State Dairy Promotion Order Advisory Board Announces 2023 Members

New York State Agriculture Commissioner Richard A. Ball has unveiled the lineup of the 2023 New York State Dairy Promotion Order Advisory Board. Consisting of ten accomplished New York milk producers, this board is entrusted with administering the Dairy Promotion Order and evaluating dairy marketing promotion programs. Commissioner Ball appointed the members, each serving a three-year term commencing on May 1, 2023, with two new additions to the board.

The 2023 Advisory Board comprises:

Larry Bailey of Fort Ann, endorsed by Dairy Farmers of America

Kim Nelson of West Winfield, endorsed by Agri-Mark

Julie Patterson of Auburn, an at-large member

Jason Kehl of Strykersville, endorsed by Niagara Frontier Cooperative Milk Producers’ Bargaining Agency, Inc.

Carl Moore of North Bangor, endorsed by NY Farm Bureau

Dean Handy of St. Johnsville, endorsed by New York State Grange

Alicia Lamb of Oakfield, an at-large member

Judi Whittaker of Whitney Point, an at-large member

Roberta Wolf of Lyons, endorsed by Rochester Cooperative Milk Producers’ Bargaining Agency, Inc. (new member)

Sarah Head of Homer, an at-large member (new member)

Commissioner Ball emphasized the crucial role played by the Advisory Board in promoting New York State's exceptional dairy products to global consumers. The board's efforts, including research projects and promotion initiatives, play a vital role in educating the public about the impact of dairy on public health and the state's economy.

Operating under the New York Dairy Promotion Order, the Advisory Board advises the Commissioner on the allocation of approximately $15.5 million collected from milk producers. These funds support various programs, such as dairy promotion, nutrition and education initiatives, and innovative dairy product research projects.

The dairy industry constitutes a significant portion of New York State's economy, accounting for half of the state's agricultural income and boasting nearly 3,200 dairy farms.

Commissioner Ball expressed gratitude to the outgoing board members and their dedicated service. The dairy industry's contributions extend beyond economic benefits, as it plays a vital role in supporting the overall well-being of communities throughout the state.

As New York State's dairy industry continues to thrive, the newly appointed Advisory Board members are well-positioned to drive strategic decisions and further elevate the state's dairy sector.
