By Blake Jackson

Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) Orange County recently recognized the dedication and achievements of its Master Gardener Volunteers during a celebration held Saturday, September 27, 2026, at the CCE Orange County Education Center and 4-H Park in Otisville.

Throughout 2025, 101 Master Gardener Volunteers provided a combined 8,437 hours of service to communities across Orange County.

Their efforts included helping maintain community and school gardens, conducting educational programs, participating in farmers’ markets and community events, harvesting surplus produce, and sharing research-based information about gardening and conservation.

Based on New York State’s estimated volunteer-hour value of $39.50 in 2025, the volunteers’ contributions represented more than $333,000 in service to CCE Orange County and local communities.

Community Horticulture Educator Susan Ndiaye and Master Gardener Volunteer Program Coordinator Katy Boula presented awards during the event. CCE Orange County Executive Director Maire Ullrich and Food Security Coordinator Stiles Najac also attended to recognize the volunteers.

Several volunteers received peer-nominated awards highlighting their commitment, teamwork, leadership, and willingness to support others. Their work reflects CCE’s mission of combining community knowledge with research-based solutions to strengthen local communities and improve residents’ quality of life.
