Governor Kathy Hochul has revealed the winners of the 39th Annual New York Wine Classic, a celebrated event showcasing the excellence of the state’s wine industry.
Rose Hill Vineyards, based in Long Island, won the coveted Governor’s Cup for their 2019 Clarity Cabernet Sauvignon. Weis Vineyards, located in the Finger Lakes, was once again named Winery of the Year marking their second straight win and third overall.
The awards were announced during a live virtual ceremony hosted by the New York Wine & Grape Foundation (NYWGF).
“Congratulations to Rose Hill Vineyards, Weis Vineyards, and all of the wineries who joined this competition,” Governor Hochul said. “The New York Wine Classic celebrates the very best of the state's wine and grape industry, which is widely recognized across the globe for producing high-quality, unique varietals that continue to set us apart as leaders in the industry. From Lake Erie to the Finger Lakes to Long Island, and across the State, the caliber of New York wines made by our hard-working winery owners and farmers is second to none.”
Organized by NYWGF, the New York Wine Classic has honored world-class wines from all across the state for nearly 40 years. Featuring producers from several American Viticultural Areas (AVAs), including the Finger Lakes, Long Island, Hudson Valley, and more, the event continues to shine a spotlight on the quality and range of wines being crafted in New York.
The Governor's Cup recognizes the "Best of Show," while Winery of the Year honors consistent high performance across multiple entries. This year’s competition saw nearly 700 entries from over 100 wineries.
“The New York Wine Classic celebrates more than just great wine - it tells the story of a passionate, resilient, and innovative industry that continues to elevate its craft year after year,” said NYWGF Executive Director Sam Filler.
