The Dairy Feeders Mini-School will be held March 1 from 12:30 to 3 p.m. at Twin-Birch Dairy, 820 Lacy Road, Skaneateles.
For the past 4 years Shop Meetings have been hosted by a local farm and held in their barns or heated workshops. Shop Meetings are an opportunity to hear from local farms and industry experts, to encourage conversation and sharing amongst the county’s farms.
Participants will start at the farm shop on Lacy Road and focus on critical control points on the most important piece of equipment on the farm-the TMR Mixer. Discussion will focus on levelness of mixer, mix fill, mix time, equipment wear and tear and how that impacts TMR consistency.
Participants will then move to dairy barn to examine feed consistency/TMR audit and cow feeding behavior. People will also look at feed center, location and loading of ingredients, bunk silo management, packing density & preservation.
Bring your camp chair and come out! Cornell Extension supplies coffee and donuts. No registration necessary
The next Shop Meeting will be March 15, 12:30-3 p.m., on Fertilizer Efficiency and Value of Manure, Daly Farms 11032 State Route 34, Cato. People will explore:
- What is the fertilizer replacement value of manure?
- 4R approach to maximizing fertilizer and nutrient efficiency
