Farmers Have More Time to Apply for New York Tariff Aid

The New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets has extended the application deadline for the $30 million Agricultural Resiliency Against Tariffs Program, giving eligible producers additional time to apply for financial assistance. Farmers now have until 11:59 p.m. on August 18, 2026, to submit their applications.

First introduced as part of Governor Kathy Hochul’s 2026 State of the State agenda, the program is designed to help New York farmers recover from increased operating costs and market disruptions linked to federal tariff policies that affected agricultural businesses in 2025.

The initiative offers direct financial support to producers in key sectors, including dairy, livestock, specialty crops, and aquaculture.

State officials are encouraging producers to start the application process as soon as possible to ensure all required information is completed before the new deadline.

“I encourage all eligible farmers to take advantage of this opportunity. We worked to streamline the application process and make it easy and accessible. Eligible producers who complete an application will receive a direct payment ranging from $1,000 to $25,000 to help offset the impact of federal tariffs," New York State Agriculture Commissioner Richard A. Ball said.

"We hope that by extending the deadline, our farmers who are at their busiest this time of year, will have the extra time they need to complete the application process.”

The program will distribute funding through two categories. The first track is dedicated to dairy farms, while the second supports livestock producers, livestock product operations, specialty crop growers, and aquaculture businesses.

Eligible applicants may receive payments ranging from $1,000 to $25,000 depending on program criteria.

To qualify, producers must derive at least two-thirds of their federal gross income, exceeding $30,000, from agricultural activities and produce eligible commodities within New York State.

Applicants must also submit certified production or sales data verified by a qualified financial professional, provide a completed substitute W-9 form, and, for dairy farms, authorize the release of milk production records.

Only complete applications will be considered. Detailed instructions, application materials, and educational resources remain available through the Department of Agriculture and Markets website.
