Farmers Invited to Apply for 2026 NNYADP Research Grants

Farmers Invited to Apply for 2026 NNYADP Research Grants

By Blake Jackson

The Northern New York Agricultural Development Program (NNYADP) is now accepting proposals for its 2026 research projects. Established by the New York State Legislature, the program works to strengthen the farm and food economy across northern New York, which includes Clinton, Essex, Franklin, Jefferson, Lewis, and St. Lawrence counties.

Application forms and guidelines can be found at nnyagdev.org under the About: Projects by Year section. Proposals are due by October 31, 2025.

The farmer-led small grants program funds research designed to help producers respond to shifting markets, weather extremes, and emerging crop and livestock challenges.

Projects often focus on improving farm resiliency, supporting environmental stewardship, and addressing issues such as pest management, crop diversification, and sustainability.

Results from these projects not only benefit farms in the region but have also provided data for larger-scale research efforts with statewide and national impact.

More than 80 farmers, representing sectors including dairy, crops, local foods, maple, and forestry, serve on the NNYADP Farmer Committee to evaluate and prioritize research proposals.

Funding for the program is made possible through the New York State Legislature and is administered by the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets.
