Women in Agriculture Honored at New York State Fair 2025

By Blake Jackson

Women took center stage at this year’s Great New York State Fair, where nearly a dozen leaders from across the agricultural industry were honored with the New York State Women in Agriculture Awards.

Now in their second year, the awards highlight the vital contributions of women in farming, agribusiness, research, and community leadership, while celebrating their role in shaping the future of agriculture in the state. A total of 10 women were recognized during the special ceremony.

“The Women in Agriculture Awards are a new tradition that celebrate something timeless the leadership and spirit of women in our agricultural sector here in New York State," State Agriculture Commissioner Richard A. Ball said. "The incredible group of farmers, scientists, business owners, and community organizers awarded today showcase the diversity and strength found in all corners of our industry, and I’m honored to celebrate them all.”

“The Great New York State Fair has agriculture at its core, so celebrating the contributions of the women who make up this community here just makes sense," Fair Director Julie LaFave said. "I’m honored to be a part of this second annual ceremony and look forward to continuing this tradition for many years. Congratulations to all the winners!”

The program recognizes women for their achievements in areas such as sustainability, research, veterinary medicine, leadership, innovation, mentorship, and overall impact.

Nominations for the awards opened during Women’s History Month in March, with selections made by a committee of State Fair and Department of Agriculture and Markets employees. Winners were officially notified in June.

This year’s honorees were celebrated during the Women’s Day Breakfast at the Fair, which also featured a keynote address by Maureen Ballatori, Founder and CEO of Agency 29, a creative firm serving food, beverage, and agriculture brands. Event photos will be shared later on the New York State Fair’s Flickr page.

Women’s Day at the Fair was sponsored by Fidelis Care and WellCare by Fidelis Care. In addition, a health and wellness mini fair was held at the Chevy Court Pavilion, offering fairgoers the chance to connect with women’s advocacy groups, gather information, and explore valuable resources.
