Gardeners and plant enthusiasts are invited to join a hands-on workshop on Winter Seed Sowing on Thursday, January 15, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM at the Amagansett Library Free Library, located at 215 Main Street, Amagansett, New York.
This session is designed to help participants get a jumpstart on their gardening season by learning how to start seeds outdoors during the winter months.
Unlike traditional indoor seed starting methods that rely on windowsills, light lamps, or greenhouses, winter sowing allows gardeners to plant seeds directly outside. This technique is simple, effective, and takes advantage of natural cold conditions to encourage germination.
By using containers and protecting seeds from harsh weather, participants can give their vegetables and flowers a strong early start, resulting in healthier, more robust plants when spring arrives.
The workshop will provide step-by-step guidance on preparing containers, selecting seeds, and creating optimal outdoor conditions for successful germination. Attendees will also gain tips for managing seedlings and transitioning them to the garden in the spring.
This event is perfect for both novice and experienced gardeners looking for practical, hands-on advice to expand their gardening skills. Participants will leave ready to start their own winter sowing projects without needing a greenhouse or specialized equipment.
