According to the National Agricultural Statistics Service in New York, there were 5.5 days suitable for fieldwork for the week ending Sunday. Topsoil moisture supplies were 1 percent very short, 27 percent short, 58 percent adequate, and 14 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies were 7 percent very short, 26 percent short, 66 percent adequate, and 1 percent surplus.
Twenty-two percent of the state's apples were harvested with 13 percent of the crop reported in poor condition, 29 percent rated fair, 55 percent rated good and 3 percent coming in as excellent. Peaches harvested reached 80 percent this week. Pears harvested stood at 45 percent. The crop condition was estimated at 8 percent poor, 67 percent fair, 20 percent good and 5 percent excellent.
Just over half of the potato crop was harvested, at 55 percent. The cabbage harvest stood at 69 percent, while the sweet corn harvest was at 72 percent. Sixty-seven percent of the snap beans were harvested with 3 percent rated poor, 72 percent fair, 13 percent good and 12 percent excellent.
Corn silking in New York was 95 percent and 66 percent of the crop was in the dough state with 29 percent dented. Average corn height was 95 inches. The crop condition was rated at 2 percent very poor, 7 percent poor, 27 percent fair, 34 percent good and 30 percent excellent.
Soybeans setting pods reached 91 percent with 46 percent of the beans fully podded. Crop condition was rated at 1 percent very poor, 6 percent poor, 20 percent fair, 34 percent good and 39 percent excellent.
