NEW YORK STATE WEATHER

New York egg production up 1% - September 2024

New York egg production up 1% - September 2024

By Blake Jackson

New York's egg production in September 2024 reached 144.1 million eggs, a slight increase of 1 percent compared to the previous year.

The state's total number of layers during the month averaged 5.67 million, also up 1 percent from the previous year. Despite the increase in the number of layers, egg production per 100 layers remained unchanged at 2,541 eggs.

In comparison to other Northeastern states, New York ranks second in egg production. Maryland leads the region with 62.5 million eggs produced in September 2024, followed by New York at 144.1 million eggs. Pennsylvania comes in third with 695.8 million eggs.

The increase in egg production in New York can be attributed to several factors, including:

  • Increased layer flock size: The number of laying hens in New York increased by 1 percent from September 2023 to September 2024.
  • Improved egg production per layer: Despite a slight decrease in the average number of layers, egg production per 100 layers increased by 1 percent. This indicates that the laying hens were more productive in September 2024 compared to the previous year.

The steady egg production in New York is a positive sign for the state's poultry industry. It indicates that the industry is resilient and able to adapt to changing market conditions.

As the demand for eggs continues to grow, New York's egg producers are well-positioned to meet the needs of consumers.
