New York wheat production totaled 7.20 million bushels in 2022, down 25% from the 2021 total of 9.63 million, according to Donnie Fike, state statistician of USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service, New York Field Office. Area harvested for grain, at 100,000 acres, was down 25,000 acres from last year. Yield was estimated at 72.0 bushels per acre, down 5.0 bushels from previous year.
New York oat production was estimated at 2.75 million bushels in 2022. Yield was estimated at 54.0 bushels per acre, down 14.0 bushels per acre from last year. Harvested area, at 51 thousand acres, was up 76% from last year.
Barley production was estimated at 305,000 bushels, down 10,000 bushels from 2021. The average yield, at 61.0 bushels per acre, was down 2.0 bushels per acre from the previous year. This year producers seeded 9,000 acres and harvested 5,000 acres, both unchanged from 2021.
