Nutrien Launches New Farm Planning Calculators

Nutrien Launches New Farm Planning Calculators

By Jamie Martin

Nutrien has added two new planning calculators to its eKonomics platform to help farmers and agronomists improve fertilizer decisions and manage farm budgets more effectively. The Input Planning Calculator allows growers to study total production costs by reviewing both fixed and variable farm expenses.

This includes spending on labor, equipment, fertilizer, and other inputs. Farmers can enter expected yields, market prices, and input costs to calculate break-even points for each acre of land.

This tool also supports crop-by-crop comparisons before planting. Growers can compare projected returns for different crops and select the crop mix that best fits their financial goals and land resources. This feature helps reduce risk and supports smarter farm planning.

The Dry Fertilizer Calculator helps farmers determine the best fertilizer rate and source for each crop. The tool uses 4R Nutrient Stewardship principles to ensure nutrients are applied in the correct amount, at the proper time, and in the right location.

By using soil test results and crop nutrient needs, the calculator converts nutrient targets into exact fertilizer application rates. Farmers can also build custom fertilizer blends and view estimated fertilizer costs. This makes it easier to design accurate, cost-effective fertilizer programs.

“These new calculators were developed to give farmers and their trusted advisors simple tools to assess fertilizer cost and value when developing a fertilizer plan within the budget of the entire farm,” said Lyle Cowell, Senior Agronomist at Nutrien. “Adding the input planning and dry fertilizer calculator expands eKonomics’ collection of free calculators and ROI tools, giving growers practical resources they can rely on to make smart crop decisions.”

These new calculators are now part of a larger eKonomics toolkit that also includes rainfall, nutrient removal, and return-on-investment calculators. The platform provides free digital tools that support better fertilizer management, cost control, and crop planning.

With these additions, Nutrien continues to offer farmers simple and reliable planning resources that support improved productivity, sustainability, and stronger farm profitability.

“Growers are looking for simple and accessible planning tools to help guide their decisions for next season, and the field-tested eKonomics calculators can help address this need,” said Dr. Karl Wyant, Director of Agronomy at Nutrien.
