Senator Mannion Announces $1.95 Million for the New York Farm Viability Institute (NYFVI)

Senator John W. Mannion today announced $1.95 million for the New York Farm Viability Institute (NYFVI) to support research and educational programs that help New York farmers improve their economic viability.

Senator Mannion visited two family-owned farms, Sorbello and Sons Farms in Fulton and Ballantyne Gardens in Liverpool. He participated in onion harvesting using precision agricultural technology and saw how a small local growing operation transitions its business for the holiday season. NYFVI-funded projects on these farms include integrated pest management (IPM) and educational programs.

Senator John W. Mannion said, “NYFVI is a critical resource for a critical segment of the state’s economy – family farms and agriculture. NYFVI helps New York farmers adopt new technologies, improve their marketing, and develop new products. This funding will allow NYFVI to continue to provide essential support to our state’s farmers.”

The NYFVI is a non-profit organization that promotes agricultural education and research projects to improve the economic viability of the State’s farms. The Institute has a proven track record of success, with its programs generating $7 for every dollar invested.
