Senior Farmers Market Program Open July-September 30

By Blake Jackson

Chautauqua County seniors can now access fresh, locally grown fruits and vegetables through the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP).

This initiative, funded by the USDA and New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets in collaboration with the Office for Aging Services (OFAS), aims to support older adults by improving their access to healthy, affordable produce.

Eligible participants receive a $25 coupon booklet that can be used at designated farm stands and farmers markets throughout the county. These booklets are available between July 1 and September 30, while supplies last.

The program operates on a first-come, first-served basis, and each eligible senior may receive only one booklet.

To qualify, individuals must be 60 years or older and meet the following income guidelines:

  • 1-person household: less than $2,412/month
  • 2-person household: less than $3,260/month
  • 3-person household: less than $4,108/month

OFAS is offering public distribution events at local farmers markets and their office locations. No pre-registration is required just stop by and pick up your booklet.
