Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-24) has introduced a resolution in the U.S. House of Representatives to designate June 2025 as National Dairy Month, aiming to recognize the contributions of America’s dairy farmers and producers particularly those in New York, one of the leading dairy-producing states.
The resolution is backed by Representatives Russ Fulcher (ID-1), Tony Wied (WI-8), Don Bacon (NE-2), Rob Bresnahan Jr. (PA-8), Elise Stefanik (NY-21), Derrick Van Orden (WI-3), John Moolenaar (MI-2), and Mike Simpson (ID-2).
New York boasts around 3,200 dairy farms, which collectively produce over 15.7 billion pounds of milk annually. This makes it the nation’s fifth-largest dairy state and the third-highest in milk production.
Within Tenney’s NY-24 district, Wyoming County leads New York with approximately 1.1 billion pounds of milk per year. The district ranks as the fourth-largest dairy-producing region in the United States.
Despite their vital role, dairy farmers face ongoing challenges including burdensome regulations, unfair trade policies, and increasing input costs. Recently, New York State lawmakers proposed a bill to cap dairy farm size at 700 cows an initiative critics say could severely harm the industry.
“New York is home to over 3,000 dairy farms, many of which are right here in NY-24. These farmers are the backbone of our agricultural economy, providing nutritious, high-quality products to families across the country,” said Tenney.
“As the Representative of the largest dairy-producing district in the Northeast, I am honored to introduce this resolution to express support for the designation of June as National Dairy Month and give our dairy farmers and producers the honor and recognition they have long earned."
