Women in Agriculture Awards 2026 Nominations Now Open

Women in Agriculture Awards 2026 Nominations Now Open

By Blake Jackson

The New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets has opened nominations for the 2026 Women in Agriculture Awards, celebrating the achievements and leadership of women across the state’s agricultural industry.

Now in its third year, the program will recognize outstanding individuals in 10 categories during Women’s Day at The Great New York State Fair. This year’s event carries added significance as the United Nations has designated 2026 as the International Year of the Woman Farmer, highlighting the global importance of women in agriculture.

“This year, and every year, we acknowledge the incredible ways in which women are forging the path in all facets of the industry," Commissioner Richard A. Ball said.

"From leading agricultural research teams to developing programs that support food systems, the Department is thrilled to recognize female innovators who continue to tackle the problems of today with a vision for tomorrow. I’m excited to see this tradition continue in 2026 and I encourage anyone who knows a trailblazing woman in agriculture to consider nominating them for an award.”

“Agriculture is at the very heart of The Great New York State Fair, and the Women in Agriculture Awards offer a powerful way to celebrate the people who keep that heart beating strong," Fair Director Julie LaFave sad.

"I’m proud to see this tradition flourish at The Fair, and look forward to celebrating these phenomenal winners in September.”

The awards will honor women in categories such as Industry Legend, Rising Star, Innovator in Agriculture, Urban Farmer, Dairy Excellence, Sustainability, Leadership, and community impact.

Nominations are open to individuals who have demonstrated excellence in areas including research, farming practices, mentorship, and advocacy.

Submissions will be accepted through May 22, 2026, with entries reviewed by a selection committee representing various agricultural sectors.

Winners will be announced in June and recognized at a special ceremony during the Women’s Day Breakfast at the New York State Fair on September 2, 2026.
