Builders, architects, and engineers interested in the next wave of eco-friendly construction will soon have the chance to immerse themselves in a three-day workshop dedicated to hemp-based building materials.
Scheduled for September 16-18, 2025, the event will take place at Cornell AgriTech in Geneva, New York, blending classroom learning with hands-on demonstrations.
Day one will focus on the science and sustainability of hemp in construction. Attendees will gain insights from leading experts on the theory, practical experiences, emerging opportunities, and innovative hemp-based products.
Presentations will feature voices such as Sergiy Kovalenkov of Hempire, who brings over 15 years of international expertise in hemp building materials, and Alex Escher of Hemp Hollow Processing, who will discuss architectural integration of hemp.
Industry specialists from Hempitecture and HempWood will also showcase their products, from insulation solutions to flooring alternatives.
The second day moves outdoors with a series of practical demonstrations. Participants will explore different hempcrete applications, including tamp-in-place, flowable mixes, and spray-on or blow-in techniques.
Companies such as Americhanvre and Bison Biocomposites will lead live sessions, offering a rare opportunity to see these sustainable materials applied in real-time.
On the third and final day, attendees will tour Cornell’s hemp research fields with Professor Larry Smart. The morning will highlight the harvesting and processing of hemp, covering raking, baling, and decortication.
The afternoon will conclude with a recap session led by Kovalenkov and an open group discussion, encouraging participants to share feedback and consider new opportunities in hemp construction.
Registration is required in advance, with two options available: $110 for the first day only or $450 for the full three-day experience. Lunch is included in the registration fee, and space is limited to 65 attendees for day one and just 35 for the full event.
