JAMS funk fest grooves to New York state fair

By Blake Jackson

Get ready to groove at the Great New York State Fair this summer! JAMS Funk Fest 2024 promises a stellar lineup of R&B and funk with headliners TMF and Raydio, alongside comedian C.P. Lacey. The free concert takes place on Saturday, August 31st, at the Fair's Chevy Court Stage.

The party starts at noon and lasts until 10 pm, featuring a variety of artists throughout the day. TMF, formerly known as Maze featuring Frankie Beverly, will close out the festival at 8 pm.

This legendary group boasts over 200 years of combined musical experience and has collaborated with music giants like Beyonce and Whitney Houston. Their recent self-titled album is a must-listen for funk fans.

Raydio, known for hits like "Jack and Jill" and "You Can't Change That," will take the stage at 6:30 pm. Several members of Raydio, including Ray Parker Jr., went on to successful solo careers, with Parker Jr. scoring the iconic theme song for "Ghostbusters."

C.P. Lacey will keep the crowd entertained between sets with his comedic impersonations. Lacey seamlessly transforms into celebrities like Michael Jackson and Eddie Murphy and has even shared the stage with stars like Sting and Steve Harvey.

"We’re so grateful to have this one-of-a-kind event back at The Fair for another memorable show," says Fair Interim Director Julie LaFave. "This year's lineup offers a fantastic mix of comedy and timeless music, sure to get everyone dancing." The best part? This high-caliber entertainment is included in the Fair's $8 admission fee!

JAMS Funk Fest is presented by JAMS (Joined Artists, Musicians, and Singers), a Syracuse-based group dedicated to promoting local artists. "The Fair's entertainment lineup reflects New York's commitment to diversity and inclusion," says JAMS President Reggie Seigler.

The Great New York State Fair runs from Wednesday, August 21st through Labor Day, September 2nd. Concerts are included with admission, making it the most affordable state fair in the country. Adults pay $8, while children under 12 and seniors get in free.

In addition to JAMS Funk Fest, the Fair offers 39 national recording acts throughout its Chevrolet Music Series. There are daily concerts at 1 pm and 6 pm at Chevy Court Stage and an 8 pm show at Suburban Park. Visit the Fair's website for the complete concert schedule.
