NYS Egg Production Up 2 Percent from Previous Year



New York egg production totaled 149.9 million during July 2022, up 2 percent from last year.

The total number of layers during July 2022 averaged 5.72 million, up 1 percent from last year.

July egg production per 100 layers was 2,621 eggs, up 2 percent from July 2021.

United States egg production totaled 9.00 billion during July 2022, down 3 percent from last year. Production included 7.69 billion table eggs, and 1.31 billion hatching eggs, of which 1.22 billion were broiler-type and 90.7 million were egg-type. The average number of layers during July 2022 totaled 368 million, down 4 percent from last year. July egg production per 100 layers was 2,449 eggs, up 2 percent from July 2021.

Total layers in the United States on August 1, 2022, totaled 369 million, down 4 percent from last year. The 369 million layers consisted of 303 million layers producing table or market type eggs, 63.0 million layers producing broiler-type hatching eggs, and 3.49 million layers producing egg-type hatching eggs. Rate of lay per day on August 1, 2022, averaged 79.0 eggs per 100 layers, up 2 percent from August 1, 2021.

Egg-type chicks hatched during July 2022 totaled 50.1 million, down 2 percent from July 2021. Eggs in incubators totaled 49.9 million on August 1, 2022, up 11 percent from a year ago.

Domestic placements of egg-type pullet chicks for future hatchery supply flocks by leading breeders totaled 166 thousand during July 2022, down 17 percent from July 2021.

Broiler-type chicks hatched during July 2022 totaled 859 million, up 2 percent from July 2021. Eggs in incubators totaled 727 million on August 1, 2022, up 2 percent from a year ago.
