New York Apple and Pear Crops Rate Mostly Fair



According to the National Agricultural Statistics Service in New York, there were 5.5 days suitable for fieldwork for the week ending Sunday.

Topsoil moisture supplies were 37 percent very short, 27 percent short, 35 percent adequate, and 1 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies were 28 percent very short, 29 percent short, 43 percent adequate, and 0 percent surplus.

The state's apples were rated 24 percent poor, 40 percent fair, 34 percent good and 2 percent excellent. Pears rated 8 percent poor, 74 percent fair, 13 percent good and 5 percent excellent.

New York's snap beans crop rated 3 percent poor, 72 percent fair, 15 percent good and 10 percent excellent.

The corn crop rated 4 percent very poor, 13 percent poor, 40 percent fair, 27 percent good and 16 percent excellent. The New York soybean crop rated 14 percent very poor, 15 percent poor, 29 percent fair, 32 percent good and 10 percent excellent.
