New York Agriculture Commissioner Richard A. Ball is calling on farmers and agricultural partners to attend the 193rd Annual Meeting and Agricultural Forum hosted by the New York State Agricultural Society. This year's event, themed "Trends, Tech and Teachable Moments," will take place on January 9, 2025, at the OnCenter in Syracuse.

“I always say that this is our industry’s biggest and best family reunion. Every year, the Forum gives New York’s farm community the opportunity to come together to reflect on the past year and prepare for what’s coming down the pipeline in the years to come, as well as recognize the achievements of our colleagues who are doing excellent work advancing our industry.," Commissioner Ball said. "I look forward to this event every year, and have no doubt that this year’s theme, ‘Trends, Tech and Teachable Moments,’ will facilitate fruitful discussions in policy areas that are a priority for New York agriculture.”

Forum Highlights:

  • State of Agriculture Address: Commissioner Ball will provide an update on state initiatives supporting New York farmers and agricultural businesses.
  • Keynote Speakers: Eric Schilling, Director of U.S. Dairy Business Unit for Elanco, and Dr. Dennis Buckmaster, Professor at Purdue University, will discuss how technology can advance research in areas like disease resistance, soil health, and crop yields.
  • NY FFA Centennial Celebration: Lunch will feature a celebration of the 100th anniversary of the New York FFA.
  • Harnessing Technology: Dr. Yu Jiang of Cornell AgriTech will explore how artificial intelligence and robotics are impacting agriculture.
  • Panel Discussion: Moderated by Dr. Buckmaster, a panel discussion titled "The Delicate Dance of Using Technology Intelligently" will feature farmers and experts.
  • Award Ceremony: Throughout the day, the New York State Agricultural Society will recognize individuals and businesses excelling in areas like environmental stewardship, consumer outreach, and farm safety.

Registration for the Forum is now open. Those who register before December 20 will save $25. Visit nysagsociety.org for more information and registration.
