The New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets Commissioner, Richard A. Ball, is set to visit Shadow Hill Maple Farm on Monday, March 10, at 11 a.m. for the season’s first maple tapping.
This visit highlights the importance of New York’s maple industry and encourages residents to participate in the upcoming Maple Weekends, scheduled for March 22-23 and March 29-30.
During these weekends, maple producers across the state will welcome visitors to their sugarhouses, offering tours, tastings, and live demonstrations of the maple syrup production process.
Shadow Hill Maple Farm, a proud member of the New York State Grown & Certified program, follows strict food safety and environmentally sustainable practices.
New York ranks as the second-largest producer of maple syrup in the country, with state producers generating an impressive 846,000 gallons in 2024.
The state also boasts the nation’s largest concentration of tappable maple trees and is home to more than 2,000 maple sugar makers.
The event at Shadow Hill Maple will also feature farm owners Gretchen and Dan Milke, along with representatives from the New York Farm Bureau, Cornell Cooperative Extension, and the Wayne County Soil and Water Conservation District. Their participation underscores the collaborative effort to support and promote the state’s thriving maple industry.
