The Cornell Small Farms Program is hosting an upcoming workshop designed to help farmers and agricultural workers better manage physical strain and recover from injuries.
The event will feature Brian Westlake, a licensed physical therapist with extensive experience in both agriculture and healthcare.
Scheduled for March 31 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in Ithaca, the session will introduce participants to Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy, a practical approach that uses simple cause-and-effect movement analysis to address pain and improve recovery time.
Westlake brings a unique perspective, having grown up working on a farm in Aurelius, New York, and later spending 25 years with the Veterans Health Administration, where he focused on improving patient wellness.
During the workshop, attendees will learn how to use everyday farm tools and movements to prevent injuries and manage discomfort. Yoga mats will be available for those interested in trying therapy techniques, although participation is optional.
The session encourages comfortable attire to ensure ease of movement and a relaxed learning environment.
