New York farm report for week ending November 5, 2023

New York farmers had 4.5 days suitable for fieldwork for the week ending Sunday, November 5, 2023, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service. Soil moisture conditions were mostly adequate to surplus, with no areas of very short or short topsoil moisture and only 2% of the state experiencing short subsoil moisture.

Fieldwork

New York farmers made progress with fieldwork last week, despite the reduced number of suitable days. Primary activities included harvesting corn and soybeans.

Crop Progress

The corn harvest was 50% complete by the end of the week, behind the 5-year average of 41%. The soybean harvest was 81% complete, also behind the 5-year average of 68%.

Soil Moisture

Topsoil moisture supplies were 0% very short, 2% short, 74% adequate, and 24% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies were 0% very short, 2% short, 84% adequate, and 14% surplus.
