Queens County Farm Museum hosts 40th annual fair

Queens County Farm Museum hosts 40th annual fair

The Queens County Farm Museum is hosting its annual Queens County Fair from September 8-10, 2023. The event will feature a variety of activities, including a Best in Show: Blue Ribbon Competition, historic house tours, a visual scavenger hunt, carnival rides, and live music.

The fair will also mark the opening of the museum's Amazing Maize Maze, which is said to be New York City's only corn maze. This year's maze is inspired by a 1954 Ford tractor donated by the Brooklyn Botanic Garden.

Tickets for the fair start at $15. Single, two-, and three-day passes are also available. The Queens County Farm Museum is located at 73-50 Little Neck Parkway in Floral Park.

Here are some of the highlights of the fair:

  • Best in Show: Blue Ribbon Competition: Makers from across New York can compete for a coveted award ribbon or a golden cow-adorned Best-in-Show trophy.
  • Historic house tours: The Adriance Farmhouse will offer tours and period demonstrations, such as butter churning, colonial cooking, and quill writing.
  • Visual scavenger hunt: The Lewis Latimer House Museum will send their Mobile Lewis Lab to the fair, where participants can uncover interesting facts about this inventor's extraordinary achievements.
  • Gourmet mushroom tastings: The Heartee Mushroom Vessel will offer tastings, recipes, and education materials from this vertical mushroom farmer.
  • Free mac and cheese samples: Cheese lovers can get free samples from the Cabot Cheese Cruiser Cheese Truck.
  • Face painting, caricatures, and temporary tattoos: The Arts Parlor will offer free face painting, caricatures, and farm-themed temporary tattoos.
  • Carnival rides and midway games: The fair will also have carnival rides and midway games.
  • Family Entertainment Tent: The Family Entertainment Tent will feature a variety of activities for kids, including a petting zoo, pony rides, and a bounce house.
  • Main Stage Entertainment: The Main Stage Entertainment area will feature a mix of musicians and performers, including Fogo Azul, a New York City-based all-women Brazilian Samba Reggae drum line, and MOMENTNYC: Tribute to Queens.

The Queens County Farm Museum is a great place to learn about agriculture and New York history. The annual Queens County Fair is a fun-filled event for the whole family.
