Violent Femmes to Perform at 2026 New York State Fair

By Blake Jackson

Violent Femmes will take the stage at The Great New York State Fair on Friday, September 4, performing at 8 p.m. at Suburban Park as part of the fair’s 2026 Chevrolet Music Series. Fans can expect to hear some of the group’s best-known songs, including “Blister in the Sun” and “Kiss Off.”

The influential folk-punk trio first gained national attention in the early 1980s with a distinctive style that combined punk energy, folk influences, and alternative rock. Their 1983 self-titled debut album helped establish the band as a major force in alternative music and remains highly regarded decades later.

Over a career spanning more than 40 years, Violent Femmes have released 10 studio albums and 19 singles. Among their notable records are The Blind Leading the Naked, Why Do Birds Sing?, and Freak Magnet. The band continues to attract audiences with energetic live performances and a catalog of enduring hits.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Violent Femmes as our Friday evening show,” said Fair Director Julie LaFave. “Their gritty, authentic sound has influenced generations, and I can’t wait to see the audience sing along to their iconic songs!”

The Great New York State Fair will begin on Wednesday, August 26, and continue through Labor Day, Monday, September 7. Concerts are included with admission to the fair. Ticket sales are expected to open later this summer.

Adult admission costs $8, while children under 12 and adults age 65 and older receive free entry.

The 2026 Chevrolet Music Series will feature 41 national recording acts with performances scheduled daily at Chevy Court and Suburban Park throughout the fair.
