Hands-On Farm Tours for Soil and Climate Resilience

Hands-On Farm Tours for Soil and Climate Resilience

By Blake Jackson

The 2025 New York Soil Health and Climate Resiliency Field Days will feature farm tours highlighting innovative practices in rotational grazing and silvopasture. Farmers, agricultural professionals, and enthusiasts are invited to attend on September 23 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The day begins at 9:30 a.m. with coffee and networking, offering participants an opportunity to connect with fellow attendees before the tours commence. The first stop, Evermore Farms, runs from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Guests will explore silvopasture forage management in mature woods and areas with invasive shrub growth, as well as biochar production. Attendees can also learn about soil health using the Soil Health Trailer and review Soil Health Benchmarks. Lunch will be served from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. at Evermore Farms.

The second stop, Begell Farms, takes place from 2:30 to 4:00 p.m. Here, visitors will see innovative water management systems, organic control of spotted knapweed, and bale grazing techniques in action.

These field days offer a hands-on experience for those looking to implement sustainable practices that improve soil health and climate resilience.

To participate, register online or call (607) 664-2300 through Steuben CCE.
