Rock icon Joan Jett and The Blackhearts are set to electrify Suburban Park at the Great New York State Fair on August 28 at 8 p.m., marking the Fair's second heart-themed concert announcement this week, fittingly released on Valentine's Day.
Formed in 1979, Joan Jett and The Blackhearts gained prominence with their signature anthem, "I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll," which topped the charts for seven weeks. Over their 40+ year career, the band accumulated nine Top 40 singles, including hits like "Bad Reputation," "I Hate Myself for Loving You," and "Crimson and Clover." Their contributions were honored with induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2015.
This performance will mark the band's fifth appearance at The Fair since 2006, with their most recent show on Labor Day in 2021. The event will close out Women’s Day at The Fair, a fitting choice given Joan Jett's groundbreaking role in the male-dominated world of rock music during the mid-1970s. After being rejected by 23 labels, Jett established her independent record label, Blackheart Records, which continues to thrive today, supporting emerging artists across various entertainment mediums.
Fair Director Sean Hennessey expressed excitement about Joan Jett's return, stating, "Joan Jett and The Blackhearts are a force! With a career that’s encompassed music, TV, film, and even Broadway, Joan is an inspiration to generations of women, as well as anyone who has struggled to carve their own path."
The Great New York State Fair, running from August 21 to September 2, offers an extensive Chevrolet Music Series featuring 39 national recording acts. Concerts are included in the admission, making it the most affordable state fair in the country.
The Fair's Chevrolet Music Series includes daily 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. concerts at Chevy Court and a daily 8 p.m. concert at Suburban Park. Additional performers announced so far include Kidz Bop, Herman’s Hermits Starring Peter Noone, Chapel Hart, TLC, and Brian Kelley. The Fair's website will continue to provide updated schedules for both Chevy Court and Suburban Park concerts.
