DEC is hosting an informational session to present the findings of a Long Island Nitrogen Action Plan (LINAP) study to assess the potential of improving water quality by enhancing the flow or exchange of sea water in Long Island embayments. Flow exchange practices are also called hydrodynamic modifications. They are engineered structures that can protect or restore ecosystem balance, primarily through increased flushing within the waterbody. The results from the study may be useful to communities along embayments as they determine how best to improve water quality in their area.
The informational session will be held virtually Aug. 16 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Find the link to the session and more information on LINAP's webpage at https://bit.ly/3QqpqF7.
DEC received funding for this project from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Long Island Sound Study and has contracted with Dewberry to complete the assessment.
