As of the week ending November 3, 2024, New York experienced an average of 6.0 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service.
Topsoil moisture levels were reported with 2% classified as very short, 21% short, 73% adequate, and 4% surplus, while subsoil moisture was assessed at 0% very short, 11% short, 83% adequate, and 6% surplus.
In terms of crop progress, the harvest of apples is nearing completion, with 96% harvested compared to 90% last week and 89% last year.
Corn is maturing well, with 88% reaching maturity this week, an increase from 80% the previous week, although slightly lower than the 94% reported last year. The corn harvested for grain stands at 47%, significantly up from 34% last week.
The grape harvest has advanced to 92%, and alfalfa hay's fourth cutting is at 92% completion, reflecting a strong season. Other hay types have also shown good progress, with 75% harvested. Potato harvest is at 94%, and soybeans are at 79%.
Winter wheat planting is nearly complete at 93%, with 77% having emerged, indicating a productive agricultural season for New York.
