As of August 25, 2024, New York experienced favorable conditions for fieldwork with five days deemed suitable.
Topsoil moisture levels were well-balanced, with 73% of the topsoil considered adequate, 12% short, and 15% in surplus.
Subsoil moisture was also mostly adequate at 90%, with only 5% reported as short and 5% in surplus.
In terms of crop progress, apple harvests reached 15%, an increase from 13% the previous week and a notable rise from 9% last year.
Barley harvest for grain has advanced to 83%, up from 71% last week, aligning closely with the five-year average of 74%.
Cabbage harvests stood at 34%, showing a slight increase from 29% last week but trailing the 42% harvested last year.
Corn development showed substantial progress with 94% of crops silked and 41% in the dough stage. The denting stage is at 13%, a marked increase from 6% last week.
Fall tillage is at 10% complete, a noticeable improvement from less than 5% the previous week but still behind the five-year average of 13%. Hay harvests are progressing, with 68% of alfalfa in the third cutting and 92% of other hay in the second cutting.
Soybean crops are advancing with 88% blooming and 69% setting pods. The sweet corn harvest has reached 49%, while snap beans are harvested at 23%. Potato harvesting stands at 25%, and onions are 38% harvested.
