The New York State Department of State has announced a $1.2-million grant program to support nonprofit organizations. This funding will help nonprofits improve their operations, increase access to resources, and better serve communities across the state.
The grant will provide technical assistance to nonprofit organizations to help them understand and meet requirements for state and federal funding. Many organizations face challenges in completing grant applications and managing compliance rules. This program will help them overcome these issues and work more efficiently.
“At a time when every dollar counts to help others, the opportunity for nonprofits to improve their capacity to fight for resources needed to help communities will go a long way to help improve the lives of many New Yorkers,” said Secretary of State Walter T. Mosley. “Governor Hochul understands the needs of our partners in government, and the mission they carry out in every region of our state, and this $1.2 million grant will help maximize funding opportunities that will translate to a stronger New York because the investments will help ensure that nonprofits can continue to deliver to communities they serve.”
The program will run for three years and will be managed by the Office of Faith and Nonprofit Development Services. It will provide free support to organizations, helping them improve planning, reporting, and financial management. Around 200 nonprofits in downstate areas and 160 in upstate regions are expected to benefit each year.
This initiative focuses on building strong organizations by improving their ability to handle grants, meet rules, and deliver services faster. It also aims to increase their reach so they can support different groups of people, including those needing social services, education support, and food assistance.
Nonprofit organizations play a key role in society. They help provide essential services and support communities in many ways. In New York State alone, the sector employs over one million people and contributes to areas like youth programs, arts, and public welfare.
The funding will remove barriers and make it easier for nonprofits to access important financial resources. This will help them expand their work, improve service quality, and create a greater impact on communities.
