Fifteen dairy farms in the North Country region of New York State will receive over $3 million in funding to improve and modernize their operations. This support comes from a larger $21.6 million grant program awarded to 103 farms across New York. The announcement was made by Governor Kathy Hochul’s office as part of the Dairy Modernization Grant Program.
The main aim of this funding is to help farms update their facilities to better meet the demands of a changing agricultural market. With this financial support, farms can now buy advanced equipment, expand their storage areas, and improve transportation systems.
"We're giving hardworking dairy farmers and cooperatives the tools they need to grow, innovate and lead in a changing market," said Governor Hochul. "This is how we honor our agricultural legacy — by making sure it has a strong and sustainable future.”
The improvements are expected to bring several benefits. Enhanced storage and upgraded transport systems will help prevent milk from being wasted due to delays or poor handling. Better equipment can also save time and reduce costs, leading to more efficient and profitable farming.
By supporting dairy producers, the state also supports rural communities and strengthens the food supply chain. These investments in modern tools and infrastructure can help ensure that dairy farming continues to thrive in the region.
This grant program not only helps current farm operations but also ensures that New York’s dairy industry remains competitive and sustainable for years to come.
